My husband has to travel on weekends occasionally for his job. Last month, he had back to back weekends! I HATE being home alone, so I quickly made some exciting plans while he was away.
The first weekend? A trip to Raleigh to visit with an AWESOME friend, Colleen.
I got the clear to run about a week before going to Raleigh. Complications with the baby and then with the D&C kept me from running for almost two months. I am pretty sure it was the longest I have been sedentary since I lived in Alaska when I was 10 (too much snow to go outside and play). I ran a rough two mile run, and then got sick and didn’t run again until Raleigh.
Colleen, is fast. Like ran in college fast. She must really love me though, because she agreed to run 3 miles with me at my pace on some trails in Cary and brought along her dog. Guys, THE STRUGGLE WAS SO REAL! It got us talking about how incredible running is though. I was running around a 10:30 pace and my lungs felt like I was sprinting, even so, I LOVED it. Running makes me feel free. It is so incredible that something that feels so hard, can also make you feel so good. It is different then the feeling I get from any other form of exercise. All the runners out there know what I am talking about!
Now, here is to hoping that 10:30 pace doesn’t last too long!
After our run, we headed back to Colleens apartment for some coffee. Enter the Chemex. Given that it is really just an expensive pitcher, I have no idea why I was so enchanted with this simple pour over coffee maker, but I needed it. Zack and I have really gotten in to cold brewed coffee in the last few months but didn’t have any kind of filtration system to make it on our own. Making hot coffee and putting it in the fridge just isn’t the same. We had been buying a concentrated cold brewed coffee from Harris Teeter when it was on sale, but it is around $10 regularly, which we just can’t justify. The Chemex was our answer! We just found a good deal on one this week, ordered it, and brewed our first batch. I am sipping on my delicious coffee as we speak. 🙂
We hung out in Raleigh the rest of the day, ran into another friend at a running store, and grabbed lunch. It was a pretty great weekend, with pretty great friends!
Now I am off to show the White Water center off to Zack’s extended family!
